2009 fashion: yellow, geometric & jelly

yellow

Yellow yellow dirty fellow. Or maybe not.

According to The Daily News Online, yellow has been announced as the influential color of 2009 by Pantone, which provides color standards to design industries. 14-0848 Mimosa, a warm, engaging yellow, has been specifically cited as the top shade in the new year but generally, Pantone expects the public to embrace many tones of yellow. “In a time of economic uncertainty and political change, optimism is paramount and no other color expresses hope and reassurance more than yellow.”

Geometry replacing floral prints
In another report by LA Times, grids, geometric forms and repeating Op Art patterns are replacing florals and the trend carries over to accessories such as shoes too.

Jelly shoes are hot
And speaking of shoes, big brands are bringing up new designs in rubber jellies as part of their collections instead of stilettos. The good news is, jelly shoes cost a lot lesser!

Apart from the Jelly shoes, the other two trends aren’t going to work for me.  I detest yellow and geometric prints usually look lousy on me!

Excellent! Yellow is one of my favourite colours and it looks really good on me. Woohoo! Plus I love geometric print. Jelly shoes though… wouldn’t that be really sweaty and gross? Like Crocs? Yuck. I think I’ll stick with my nice leather heels. ?

Zoe: That nice. Yellow can look really good on some people but for me, it doesn’t flatter at all. Crocs…haha…I agree – YUCK.

  2. Ms. Blacklace says:

Ah! Those jelly shoes are from the brand Melissa!

  3. Ms. Blacklace says:

I got my pair of melissa shoes for $9.90 at NOVO. They ddin’t want to carry the brand anymore so they slased the price. It’s quite comfy but, I recommend wearing stockings to prevent blisters. You know… Rubber on skin… Other than that, the balls of my feet and heel didn’t ache a lot even though I walked the whole of marina square, suntec and millenia walk. The sole is reasonably thick, and since it was made of rubber, it absorbs the shock pretty well.

Ms Blacklace: I love the shoes at Novo and if I remember correctly, I have a pair of flats from Melissa. I don’t think I can wear the shoes though.

  4. Mag says:

LOVE Melissa jellies. I hope they bring them back!

Mag: Anyway why did they stop carrying? Poor demand here?

  5. Ms. Blacklace says:

Yes… I love the shoes at novo too. Once I had these slinky heels from novo as a gift. Walked from far east plaza to taka. No aches, no blisters! BUt the price is a little steep.

Ms Blacklace: Novo is my fave shoe shop!
