FitFlop: leg toning and style-setting footwear

Fitflop

Lookie! I’m wearing the Electra, compliments from Fitflop! This is part of the Spring/Summer 09 Collection and the design has been updated with a softer collar and microfiber lining plus precision sequin placement for shinier shine. Okay, I have no idea what that really means but so far, I have gone shopping in these twice the past week and I’ll say – they’re really comfy! Even better than my Birkenstock!

Load bottom and leg muscles
Known worldwide as “the flip-flop with the gym built in”, FitFlop has been credited with everything from leg toning to style-setting. The Electra is built with a patent-pending microwobbleboard midsole technology, which is proven to load your bottom and leg muscles more, so you get a workout while you walk. I was informed that I should wear them progressively so that the muscles on my legs would not feel sore so quickly. I took the heed and no aching thighs or calves so far!

Good for foot health
So it’s too early for me to say if there’s any toning effects but I’ll sure like some on my saggy bum! But I do like the fact that these are light and the added cushion in the heel which helps to reduce shock by 22% feels great for my feet. In fact, it’s got The Seal of Acceptance conferred by the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA), which means wearing this is beneficial for foot health!

Prices and availability
Price for a pair of Fitflop starts from S$89.90. The Fitflop Electra you see here cost S$109.90 and you can find out where to get them via their website at www.fitflop.com.

You bet I’ll be wearing these often. Maybe I should take a measurement of my hip and see the effects after walking in them after a couple of weeks?

Haha incidentally I posted my thoughts on this one today too! Don’t think it helped with any toning for me, but its super comfy.

  2. Nikki says:

I’ve seen them around, I think I would give them a try as my bum needed some workout too ?

  3. sesame says:

I read it! I would like for it to be able to tone my butt really…but I wonder too…

  4. ritsu says:

they sounds intriguing.i’m always looking out for comfy shoes. currently josef seibel marcella is my staple, but would love to get a pair of flip-flop that fits great. does anyone know if any of the singapore shops carrying the fitflops are having any GSS discounts or sales?

  5. sesame says:

Yes, I like the idea of toning my bum while I walk. I’m super lazy… ?

  6. sesame says:

I’m not too sure which shop still offers GSS discounts…

  7. loop says:

I saw them sold at Isetan Scotts Rd branch once but I think they are rather expensive. I’ll stick with my Americaya sandels.

  8. sesame says:

Yup, the price is on the high side but believe me, they’re really comfy!

  9. Leon says:

Hey Sesame, let us know if it helps, looks promising but would rather wait for your response:)

  11. Jessica says:

    Hi Sesame,
I love it so much that I had 2 of it. It is super comfortable and esp good for people like me with flat foot. Been wearing it for more than 3 months or so. As for wearing it progressively, I did not heed the advice but it did not give me sore legs at all after prolong wearing. I’m still quite skeptical over the toning part as my thigh and bum is still as huge as it was, though my bf did mention that my thigh did looks toner. And I think it really worth the price, as it cost almost the same as Birkenstock but it does not cause me aches and pain like Birkenstock do.

  12. sesame says:

It’s really good in terms of comfort level! I’m also thinking of getting another one. Maybe later! I like it better than Birkenstock, but in terms of design, Birkenstock has more to offer of course.

  13. Fit Gizmos says:

I prefer Crocs…they’re amazingly comfortable! I love ’em

  14. sesame says:

    But Crocs are ugly.

hi it’s been a month since you posted about the fitflops, what are your thoughts on them so far? saw an article about the dangers of wearing flip flops last week on mind your health, and was re-considering whether i should get the fitflops i was eyeing. thought that i should hear about your comments first.

  16. sesame says:

I was just thinking when I should be writing my review. I haven’t been wearing it so consistently except during the weekends. So far, I like it as in it’s very comfortable. However, I haven’t noticed any toning effects.

What’s the dangers associated with wearing flip flops? I missed last week’s edition.

I can only say that if you’re going for it to trim or tone your butt and thighs, I’m not going to recommend it. Whatever difference is probably minimal. But if you like the design and you want something comfortable, this is great. I am actually contemplating getting another design myself.

  17. loveless says:

i tried it on once at isetan… it fits great and really feels comfortable. the straps do not rub either.

a summary quote from the article last thurs:

    – when one’s toes grip the slippers to prevent them from falling off, stress is transferred to the knees, hips and lower back.
    – claw toes may develop from gripping slipper straps
    – one’s sole tends to collapse on the inside of the heel, causing the foot to roll inwards
    – lack of shock absorption can lead to heel pain
    – friction from the strap rubbing against the first & second toes may cause a wound which can become infected – a danger diabetics face.

they did mention fitflops, but only for the toning and cellulite reduction. there was a mention of this Orthaheel slippers but the podiatrist wouldn’t recommend them for long-distances. overall the verdict on flip-flops is a no,
i notice that most of the dangers don’t seem to apply to what little i know of fitflop, as it seems well-fitted with comfty design & support.
    looking forward to your review.

  18. sesame says:

Ah…I agree that flip flops as a whole are not good for our feet when used for long hours. But I feel that Fitflops are different because they provide shock absorption – I feel it is even better than Birkies. Unless you’re wearing the wrong size, you don’t have to use your toes to grip on to the sandals. There are also no friction from the strap.

Actually, it feels more like a sandal to me, but designed in flip flop style.

  19. Berry says:

I was introduce to FITFLOP by a friend, before fitflop wa s available in Malaysia.I had been using FITFLOP for 5 months now. 1st month I only wear fitflop when i went out, but now I have a 2nd pair to wear at home. NO MORE KNEE PAIN NOW!! (I use to suffer from knee pain, recommended to go for injection that cost more than 1k)

  20. sesame says:

Sounds good! I’m thinking of getting another pair too.
