DHC skincare coming to a Watsons near you

DHC Olive Essentials Set

So yeah…you’ve all guessed it right!  It’s DHC that’s going to be launched in Watsons.  In fact, if you’ve visited the store at Ngee Ann City, you probably would have seen the DHC Olive Essentials Set, which include the popular DHC Deep Cleansing Oil on display.  And from tomorrow onwards, you can find the full range of DHC products at Watsons Bugis Junction, Compass Point, Ion, and Raffles City, besides Ngee Ann City.  Other outlets will also roll out skin care products from the range progressively.

Additionally, I also learnt that besides the Olive Essentials Set, other DHC skincare products to be introduced include the acne, whitening, anti-aging, suncare and men’s ranges. And from January next year, DHC’s health supplements will also be brought in.

DHC Watsons Singapore

Voted best cleanser in Japan
For those who don’t know, DHC is one of the leading brands in Japan with over 29 years of presence and more than 40,000 stores worldwide, including over 100 DHC direct management stores in Japan.  I wouldn’t consider them as 100% natural but their products are said to use mostly botanical ingredients especially olive oil.  As a matter of fact, the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil is fairly natural and does not contain mineral oil, plus it has often been voted as the number one product in the category of cleanser within Japan.

Garnered good rating at Makeupalley
I haven’t tried all the cleansing oils to confirm if this is true but based on the sample kit I’ve tested, it’s quite an effective oil cleanser that emulsifies well and leaves my skin quite fresh without a sticky residue.  And compared to the Muji Cleansing Oil for Sensitive Skin I’m currently using, this one is not as thick and is therefore easier to spread across my face. I was told this cleansing oil can remove waterproof mascara but I can’t confirm that since I don’t wear heavy makeup.  But I guess being rated 4.2 out of 5 from 1037 reviewers does say something about the efficacy of this product as well?

DHC Cleansing Oil

Mild soap combines olive virgin oil and honey
Other products in the Olive Essentials Set include the Mild Soap, Mild Lotion and Olive Virgin Oil.  I can’t say much about them because I didn’t test them extensively but if you’re a soap person, you might like the DHC Mild Soap which foams very well and does not dry out the skin.   Personally, I dislike using soap on my face due to the overly squeaky clean feeling and so I currently only use the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil with my own foaming cleanser.

Price of DHC Olive Essentials Set
Okay, most of you are probably interested to know the price of the products and this is what was released by Watsons:
– DHC Deep Cleansing Oil 200ml S$42
– DHC Mild Soap 90g S$26.50
– DHC Mild Lotion 100ml S$52.50
– DHC Olive Virgin Oil 30ml S$69.50

I ran a quick check and it seems that the price of the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil is actually on par or better than those from other Japanese leading brands but I’m curious to know if they’re competitive to you since I know some of you are already purchasing from blogshops or alternative sources. The prices are so marked up (no surprise!), especially the cleansing oil! Cost twice as more!

  2. pf1123 says:

Compared to the unknown brand of cleansing oil that I use (its called Extra Virgin Olive Cleansing Oil from Interface), bought in Japan, this DHC one is much more expensive.

However, I think I cannot speak for it because I can’t find my cleasing oil anywhere online. *oh no!*

Don’t know what I will do after my cleansing oil runs out. Very sad! ?

  3. stella says:

wow it’s really pricey. i’ll stick to fancl.

  4. Jyoan says:

I was actually looking at the Sunscreen yesterday. And I thought the description on the website looks pretty good!

I never expected the whole range to come… Thought it will be like Juice Beauty and Dr. Jart, with very limited choices.

Now I wonder if the sunscreen is coming… haha.

  5. Amanda says:

    You guys are lucky!

Looks pretty pricey though, but it has had good reviews!

  6. Florence says:

The price is supre high! I always brought from Japan & is so much cheaper.I know skin products import from Japan can never be cheap here as they also need to include freight cost & etc cost.Anyway I always buy my skin products from Japan, so I don’t think I will buy here.Btw U intro the muji cleansing oil is good & I am using now.Tks

  7. Den says:

    Hey Sesame,
Is the DHC mild lotion the one that you said would be suitable for the DIY lotion mask?

Anyway the prices of the products are way too expensive! Will definitely stick to Muji Cleansing Oil instead.

  8. eliza says:

wow~! the prices are expensive @-@
prefer mandom to clean off makeup XD

  9. sesame says:

I think most imported products are marked up quite a bit and this one is no different. It’s probably a pinch to those who have been buying it cheaper.

  10. sesame says:

But DHC has a reputation and so I guess the price do justify that?

You want to try Muji? It’s okay for those who don’t wear thick makeup. Maybe try the small one which call under S$6.

  11. sesame says:

The Fancl one is $33 but smaller isn’t it? I think it’s 120 or 130ml right? So the price isn’t really higher for this one.

  12. sesame says:

Yes, I believe so…it’s one of the hot items under their slate if I’m not wrong.

  13. sesame says:

Yeah…I was surprised to see so many at Makeupalley.

  14. sesame says:

The Muji one works for you? That’s good! Another reader mentioned it didn’t work to remove her eye makeup well. I think it’s not good for thick makeup.

  15. sesame says:

Yes, I did. But I find it so so for the lotion mask after a few more usage. I think there is another lotion under their slate – the balancing one or moisturizing one. Perhaps that’ll be better.

  16. pf1123 says:

Yes. I still have a bottle of the mandom cleansing water. But need to use cotton pads. I’m trying to reduce as I don’t have storage space at the sink for so many bags of cottons. hahaha…

Now I have 3 types of cotton pads. 1 watsons (to remove eye makeup), 1 guardian (remove eye makeup too – impluse buy), muiji ones for my toner.

And then again, I’m now using the balancing lotion from Talika. I think putting it on cotton pad is a waste. I just slap it on. ?

Cleansing oil is good. No need for cotton pads.

  17. sesame says:

Never tried Mandom so can’t do a comparison. But I think it’s natural for the premium brands to charge more. I suppose at the end of the day, it depends on our threshold and acceptance. I’m happy with Muji for example and it’s cheaper. ?

  18. sesame says:

I spoke to Susan of True Beauty regarding the DIY lotion mask. From what I’ve gathered, it’s good for lotions that are not able to penetrate into the skin as well. If your lotion/toner can penetrate well into your skin, then patting on is sufficient.

  19. Blovet Beauty says:

i really want to try the mild soap ? I’m so happy DHC is in Spore… but atelier girl is right, it’s more expensive than in Japan…

  20. eli says:

how does fancl mild cleansing oil compare with this?

  21. sesame says:

You like soap on your face? It’s nice as it foams well and smells good but I just dislike the squeaky clean feel.

  22. sesame says:

    Fancl’s cost S$33 for 120ml while the DHC one is $42 for 200ml. So Fancl’s isn’t cheaper.

  23. stella says:

you’re right on the price and size of dhc vs fancl. maybe i’ll just stick with biore (on and off with fancl) or try muji then. i just find it incredibly difficult to justify spending so much more on a oil cleanser even tho’ i LOVE fancl’s.

i mean, after all, as long as an oil cleanser removes make up well, doesn’t break me out, and washes off clean with a foaming cleanser, there’s no diff between a higher or lower-end one for me… after all, it’s on the skin for less than 2 mins max.

  24. Motty says:

is it possible to list the ingredients? i’ve been using Bioelements Sensitive Skin Cleanser for about 4 months now and it’s working fine but it’s very expensive (95nzd) and only available in health&beauty spas. The Bioelements cleanser has the ff: Olea Europaea (olive oil), Carthamus Tinctorius (safflower) Oil, PEG-40 Sorbitan Peroleate, Corylus Avellana (hazelnut) Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (jojoba) Oil, Lavendula (lavender) Angustifolia Oil, Camellia Kissi Seed Oil, Rosemarinus Offi cinalis (rosemary) Leaf Extract, Tocopherol

  25. sesame says:

I share your thoughts…I use a foaming cleanser after so I prefer to spend my money on that. The oil cleanser should be simple and cheap as far as possible.

  26. sesame says:

Here are the ingredients for DHC Deep Cleansing Oil: Ingredients: Olea Europaea (olive) Fruit Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate, Tocopherol, Phenoxyethanol, Propylparaben, Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, Rosmarinus Officinalis (rosemary) Leaf Oil.

  27. Grace says:

Not sure what the hype about. Price looks pretty steep for me since it’s not even organic skincare. But for the DHC Olive virgin oil , 30ML for SGD70??!!! Whats the different of that from the cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil you buy from whoopeekiddies? It cost less and its organic. What is the DHC Olive virgin oil is for?

  28. shaynaJo says:

DHC Cleansing Oil sounds really promising but I think cleansing oil is not so suitable for my skin as I experienced some serious breakouts after using Kanebo Blanchir’s Cleansing oil… I’m a lil scared to try on this.. any comment on this?
And, I think the price is a lil too expensive. can get it cheaper thru some online shops.. =)

  29. Grace says:

Regarding the DIY Lotion Mask, after reading Chizu Saeki book, I realised there is reason why she suggest to use cotton and not just patting on the face. Lets look into the lotion that penetrates well (probably contain alcohol, hence it’s able to penetrate well). When alcohol touch on any surface, its evaporate and take away any water/moisture with it. Same to your skin. Hence you felt a cooling sensation and mistaken that the lotion has penetrate the skin. For lotion that does not contain alcohol(which is more recommended), cotton pad helps it to penetrate into the skin. It also help the alcohol-based lotion to lock in the moisture instead of evaporated. This is to my understanding. So to both instances, I think lotion is able to absorp better using the lotion pack ?

  30. sesame says:

The virgin oil is for moisturizing, after the toning. I’ve only tried it once so can’t say too much.

  31. sesame says:

Hmm…what’s your skin type like? I have heard of some girls breaking out using cleansing oil but sometimes, it’s due to the ingredients and it’s not across the board for all cleansing oil. I can’t say which will suit you but look for those with lesser ingredients or more natural if you want to try.

  32. sesame says:

You have a good point about the alchol-based toner. Personally, I don’t use alcohol based but I find her mask quite good if using the normal toner. However, the toner I’m currently using works well because it is able to penetrate and so I don’t use it with cotton pads – I find it expensive cos this method consumes a lot of toner!

  33. Grace says:

Yes dear, do like she say as well, saturate it with water first. She also mentioned it wont dillute the lotion or make it less efficient instead it will just help it spread better ? Which toner is it that you are using?

But there is one point that I dont agree with her, on getting rid of blackheads. She oppose the idea of squeezing your blackhead. Instead she said use more lotion pack in the T zone and plump up the area so the pores will look smaller. But then the problem is still there, the clogged dirts still trapped inside. How to get it out? This is my forever never ending problem/. I went to facial, get it clean, within one week , its back again!

  34. sesame says:

The toner I use is from True Bio Skincare. I only use one pump each time and pat on. Anyway, the product is formulated to penetrate quickly so there’s no need for the cotton pad. But I did try the DIY lotion mask for a period of time using Lavera toner. Not bad.

Like you, I don’t agree with everything she recommended as well – eg. using the ice pack. As for blackheads, yes, they’re difficult to rid completely. Even with products that get rid of them, you have to continue using the product.

  35. mswonder says:

Does DHC products suitable for those who’r sensitive skin person?

  36. sesame says:

It is said to be suitable but I would advise you to do a patch test if your skin is specially sensitive.

  37. Kelly says:

So expensive! I might as well stick to Muji cleansing oil. It’s not natural but since it’s going to be washed off quickly, it should be OK.

  38. sesame says:

Yeah, the cost is something to consider. I guess it depends on individual threshold too.
