Beauty makeovers: what would you like to be?

A glamorous babe? An enhanted princess? Or maybe a runaway model? For me, I’m not quite sure. Maybe it’s the punk rock inspiration complete with smoky eyes and disheveled style although I doubt I can carry it off because it it takes a certain kind of attitude to look that part too. So I had no idea what to expect when I was invited to the Shiseido makeover session on Thursday. I accepted the invitation out for some quest for fun, but really, I was slightly afraid that they’re going to make me look over-the-top! The last time I had a makeover was during my wedding and I could hardly recognize myself with all the heavy makeup. I was literally, uncomfortable in my own skin!

Barely-there look with an immaculate finish
But surprise! I was introduced to the Shiseido Spring/Summer 2010 collection that creates the barely-there-look with an immaculate finish. At the basic, the Sheer Matifying Compact foundation creates a soft matte look with a tinge of natural sheen. The powder is very fine to conceal pores and imperfection and the plus point is that it can thoroughly absorb excess oil to give a long-lasting, shine-free finish. Very true because my acne blemishes were quite well concealed after the makeover and what I really liked best was that the coverage wasn’t heavy. And as you can see from the pictures, my skin tone looked a lot more flattering after the makeover. Well, okay, apart from the compact, the makeup artist also used a highlighter so I guess that aided the brightness too.

Pastel twist for the eyes
I do not use an eyeliner and don’t find myself looking good from the various experiences where I had when others apply that for me. Good thing, the Shiseido makeup artist only applied the eyeliner to my upper lid and for my eyes, she used a combination of violet and blue (Ghost & Sky) under the Luminizing Satin Eye Color and the end result was fresh but not tacky.

Soft blushing for the cheeks
My favorite was the way she applied the blush using the Luminizing Satin Face Color. No red apples there but instead, the finishing was soft with just a hint of pink. I wonder if I can achieve the same on my own!

Juicy looking soft finish for the lips
I have forgotten which lipstick was used on my lips as the one I received in my goodie bag appeared a lot redder. But perhaps it was the Luminizing Lip Gloss that gave me that pinkish shade…not too sure. Oh, if you’re into lip gloss, then you’ve got to try this range because it’s moisturizing but not sticky.

I CAN recognize myself
So yeah, in the end, I was still ME after the beauty makeover. Okay, I didn’t like the way they did my hair because it didn’t flatter my face at all. Judging from the compliment I received from Mag of Makeup Stash on the back of my hair, I think the lack of a mirror might have to do with it as the stylist obviously paid more attention to what she could see from behind! What you see in the pictures were not the initial hairdo but a couple of hours later, after the styling had calmed down. I suppose it’s quite hard to style my short, limp hair as those with longer hair like Joyce of Ateliergal had a more flattering look! You can also check out the color swatches and read the accounts of the makeover session by other beauty bloggers over at Shiseido’s Facebook.

I could recognize you, and I thought you hadn’t gone through the makeover yet. See? You don’t have to pile on layers of colors to look natural for Spring!

Hope to bump into you again!

    PS
    Milo is sleeping ?

  2. sesame says:

Yeah, will send you tweets for other events so that we can chat more next time. I feel terribly awkward with groups and it’ll be nice to have a familiar face to chat with. ?

  3. AtelierGal says:

I share the same sentiments, its weird to meet many new faces and I ended up sitting alone ?

  4. CT says:

Its beautiful and the colours are so sweet. Did you get to keep all the products?

  5. sesame says:

Oh…you don’t know the rest, not even from the EA events? I know Mag at least.

  6. sesame says:

Yes, they were given in the goodie bag.

  7. AtelierGal says:

I’ve seen some familiar faces but just a “Hi, how are you?” and that was that.

  8. Nikki says:

you do look natural in this makeover! ? I like makeovers that makes me look like myself still! ?

  9. pf1123 says:

    Fantastic!

The finish of the Coffret D’or powder foundation on me looks a lot like what I see on you!!! Something that looks soft and luminous. Not the cakey, powdery type which I thought was the norm for powder foundations (before I encountered Coffret D’or…but I think Maquillage under Shiseido would be good too as they are direct competing brands).

The glow I had from the foundation is without any highlighter. I have compliments from people about my skin under restaurant lighting. But I think when I put on highlighter, it adds more points. ?

Btw, u know the Maquillage 3D Face Creator palette? That one is good!!! Although I only put on the highlighter and contour powder.

I really like Japanese makeup. They are generally on the safe side. Very minimal makeup feel but enhanced facial features overall. Very good.

Nowadays not many can tell for sure if I put on any base makeup. hehehe…

i always look to shiseido when i’m considering a new product to add to my regime, it’s a reliable brand. i always go back to their toner, moisturizer and lipstick after veering to other brands! … but i prefer to buy at dfs, definitely substantially cheaper than at counters in town

  11. sesame says:

Yes, I’m scared of makeovers using falsies! So not me.

  12. sesame says:

Now that you mentioned…I think it’s true that Japanese makeup works better for me. I started with the US brands like Estee Lauder, Lancome, Stila then moved to European brands like La Colline but I think my experience with Japanese foundations are better. But, I also like mineral foundation because I find them extremely natural looking.

I have no idea about the Maquillage 3D Face Creator palette. I’m quite a noob with makeup and usually don’t look beyond the foundation. Btw, what do you use to apply your foundation? The puff or brush? I used the Everyday Minerals flat brush but the coverage isn’t so ideal. Natural, but very light.

  13. sesame says:

I’ve only tried Shiseido’s sunscreen. Don’t think I’ve ever used any of their other products.

  14. sesame says:

I sometimes wonder if we’re warmer online than in person. Haha…

  15. pf1123 says:

Oh yes, I think Japanese foundations are very good. In fact, I read somewhere that the Japanese focus a lot of foundations to achieve flawless skin as their culture is that open pores is not a polite thing. So, their technology in foundation is at least 10 years more advanced than western ones.

    I use this brush.

Coverage can be built up by buffing on more powder. I can use the sponge that comes with the powder foundation, but I prefer the brush. More even finish, I think. ?

In fact, I think those sponge that comes with Japanese powder foundations are very high quality. My Coffret D’or one went thru a couple of washes already and its still good as new. I use it when I’m travelling sometimes.

I think its fun to explore Japanese makeup. But as the colours are rather on the safe side, they tend to be repetitive. Haha…so I like to look but did not buy much.

It was great seeing you again, even though we couldn’t chat for long. I’m only just writing up my post about it. ? And yes, you did look lovely! ?

  25. sesame says:

Thank you Mag! I love how they did your hair that day.

  26. Hayashi says:

Hello Sesame, any comments on permanent make-up? Ever heard of ERA BELLE Cosmetic Artistry? Understand it’s a semi-permanent make-up to eyeliner, brow and lips. Quite interesting. Hope to read reviews if anyone has tried before. (http://www.erabelle.com/erabelle_CA.htm)

  27. sesame says:

I was invited to try their makeup but I wasn’t interested. It depends. For eyebrow embroidery, it’s worth considering but the thing is you have to touch up every year or so. Plus, it’s funny to have permanent makeup when we grow older. I’ll rather not.
