The itsy bitsy pains from beauty treatments

While I do enjoy going for my beauty and wellness treatments, but there are certain things about the aftermath of these experiences that irk me. And it doesn’t matter where I go because I can’t run away from these little pains. I don’t know how others can arrange a date or meeting after receiving such services because for me, I just want to go home immediately.

At the hair salon
I don’t like the towels they use on my hair. I know they’re washed but I’m not so sure if they’re washed clean. I particularly hate it when the towels touch the sides of my face and I often wonder if I’ll get a new pimple because of the towels.

I also have an issue with the combs and brushes they use on my hair. All the time my hairstylist uses it on my hair and it comes into contact on my face, I’ll cringe in my chair and almost want to scream “NOooo”.

Maybe the worst for me is the little bits of hair left on my face, neck and clothes after my haircut. They can never be brushed or swept off completely and I always end up walking around with these bits on my skin, visible to the public eye.

At the facial salon
After a two-hour facial session, my face would be glowing with radiance but my hair on the other hand, would be flattened and no amount of brushing would get them back to shape.

In addition, I can’t do with some amount of makeup after my facial especially since my salon is not just across the street. And this means I’ll be subjecting my face to another round of washing after I get back home.

At the spa
A massage is great and I love all the kneading and rubbing and pressing but I hate it when I have a full hair of oil after the session. While there’s usually shower facility, it’s not a good idea to bathe immediately after a massage. So I have to try not to be so self conscious as I quickly get out of the spa to my next destination and that’s usually home.

I wonder if I’m the odd one feeling this way, considering these pains I’ve listed are really more due to my psychological discomfort. And although they do irk me, I’ve come to accept these inconveniences as part of the package. Do they bother you at all?

I usually go home after the trip to the hair salon and beauty salon.

I went to do my hair 2 days ago. I was there from 130pm to 830pm. I was so exhausted after that, I have to go home. If I do my hair right after work, reaching at 630pm, it would only be done about 1130pm. That’s for rebond, colour and cut.

For my facials, I usually would go home because its on my way back home from work. Or I would go home to put on some makeup before heading out. But I’ll rather not as my face can be a little sensitive and red especially after some extraction.

    hihi ?
i’ve similar quirks as u. I never arrange for a date or meet up after a hair cut or a facial.
After a facial, my hair goes haywire too. We probably have similar hair texture – the fine and limp kind that’s why it flattens after being wrapped up and stays that way despite brushing. I’ll make sure i pin my fringe in the right direction before i lay down as this helps to minimise the strange-hair that i get after facial.
I also hate the oily feet which results from getting a foot massage. It’s a pain to walk with oily feet coz you’ll need to grip on extra hard to your footwear.

Yes, they do bother me. That is why I do not go to spa or facial anymore. I only visit those 10mins SGD10 haircut places as they do not have the time to ask you stupid questions or push products onto you.

  4. sesame says:

    130 – 830??? OMG! That’s like more than half a day! Gosh…no wonder you’re exhausted.

  5. sesame says:

You’re right…we probably have the same hair type. I realized that those with thick hair don’t have this problem.

Btw, it’s hard to comment on your blog now. I have to register to become an Onsugar member right?

  6. BT says:

I had experienced a mild irritated skin after doing a spa package in several years back, eventhough they used natural plant treatment for sensitive skin. Until today, I hardly go for any facial or spa. “b

    hihi Sesame,
i had some problem uploading on blogger on and off. Once, i had to wait for close to a week before i could successfully upload some pics. So i decided to switch to onsugar. good to know that u visit that site & yes, u have to me a member to comment ?

  8. sesame says:

I know what you mean…I go to those I feel comfortable with. Very afraid to try new ones on my own.

  9. sesame says:

I see…unfortunately it’s quite hard to say what will or will not work for sensitive skin even if the ingredients are natural. Some ingredients can actually irritate.

  10. Kira says:

My masseuse at the spa places a towel on my head (while I’m face down) so she can massage me without getting oil on my hair. It’s pretty effective ?

  11. pf1123 says:

Yes. That’s why I try to limit my trips to the hair salon. ?

  12. e=Renz says:

I don’t usually plan any appointments or dates after my trips to favial salons or to the hairdresser.

Hairdresser is due to I don’t know how long I’ll take there, so its pretty hard to plan.

But for facials….its the same problem with you as well, flattened hair and also, my face with be very red due to the removal of black/white heads. Even when I try to blowdry my hair upside down, its useless, so in the end just tie up in a ponytail and hightail back home

  13. sesame says:

They do that but sometimes, they also remove the towel or the cap to massage the head. I usually tell them not to touch my head if I don’t want oily hair.

  14. sesame says:

But hair coloring is very tricky. After just about 2 months, I think I need another coloring touch up cos the roots are showing!

  15. sesame says:

I normally would use sunglasses if the facial is completed in the day…should try to use a hat next time cos I can’t tie up my hair like you.

  16. stella says:

i don’t do massages or facials but i can definitely empathise with tiny hair everywhere after a haircut — totally irks me!

i have thick hair, but believe me, to achieve the ‘airy’ look that is all the rage now, i still need to wash and blow and style everrrryday…. there’s no way around it, hair will be flat otherwise, and i have a tiny bit of curls giving a little volume too!

  17. pf1123 says:

Umm…I’m not that particular. Hahaha…I usually do my hair once in 6 mths.

  18. sesame says:

You wash your hair every day too? My hair is thin and limp…so it’s manageable but still time consuming. I can imagine your daily styling would take a longer time since your hair is thick.

  19. sesame says:

Haha…cos you probably don’t have white hair.

  20. chenyze says:

i totally get what you mean! and i’m always so anxious about whether they washed their hands RIGHT before the facial… cuz if they’re going to spend the next 45min touching and massaging into my face, i would prefer it if they washed right before settling beside me!

and for massages, you know how some places have this hole in the “bed” so you can lie flat on your stomach? i’m always so skeptical of it, and i never relax fully cuz i’m quite scared of pimples! x=

  21. sesame says:

Oh the hole! They usually lay this disposable sheet so I’m not too worried…but I wish I can get a nicer view than just the floor.

  22. lala says:

    The hole-
went to a spa in Bali, they had a basin filled with water and with flowers
    so nice…

  23. chenyze says:

good for you! the ones I’ve been to usually put a towel (if at all) and I’m quite cautious about towels outside too x=

  24. sesame says:

I love those in Bali, Bintan or Thailand. The ambience is so much better.
