Share: how long is your daily skin care routine?

I don’t know if you’ve heard this expression but it’s quite a common one here in Singapore meant for people who spend a long time in the toilet, whatever it is they maybe doing. Another laughable one I came across from my mom is “oh, she’s pulling out all her intestines to wash and then stuffing them back”. And I was like (o_o). I don’t stay with my mom now so I don’t know what she’ll say if she finds out that I spend like 30 minutes each morning to prep my skin and hair. That’s probably well too long by her standard.

So what is my 30 minutes spent on? Well, I wake up around 6am daily and as most of you know, that time of the morning is cold!

First 20 minutes
– soak under warm running water to get my system ready
– shampoo my hair, sometimes twice
– condition my hair, leaving the conditioner on for a minute
– bathe, bathe, bathe
– wash my face once
– massage my face for 1 to 2 minutes

Next 5 minutes
– towel my face dry
– towel my body dry
– spritz my face with toner, leaving it dripping for a minute
– brush my hair, prepping it for blow drying
– pat the toner dry
– tap eye cream around eye area
– apply face oil or moisturizer on face & neck
– apply sunscreen on face

Last 5 minutes
– blow and style my hair
– apply deodorant
– apply body moisturizer, mainly on arms and legs
– put on clothes

In the evening, I don’t wash my hair again and so the routine is really much shorter and that includes taking a shower; probably takes me around 15 minutes because I have additional skin care needs for the night.

So how long is your daily skin care routine? Care to share?

my routine is very similar to yours! Except, I don’t blow dry my hair, I towel dry & air dry. And I don’t massage my face (maybe I should do this?) ?

So it usually takes me about 20 mins my full morning routine! ?

I bought a salon level blow dryer last year to start blow drying – but somehow it’s a habit I couldn’t get into.

    ?

  2. EcoBeauty says:

Wow, I consider that fast. :p

I usually wash my hair at night since it’s already long. washing and drying it in the morning (styling not included) would require me to wake up at least 30 minutes earlier.

Right now, I take about 30 minutes in the toilet and that doesn’t include dressing up. I’m laying dozens of eggs or what?!

  3. Gaelle Lehrer Kennedy says:

I think you are kidding about it being cold in Singapore at 6:00 am. I’ve visited a few times and I can’t remember a time when it was at the very least, warm.

My skincare routine takes three minutes. I wash and pat my face dry, then tone, then moisturize. Twice a week, I exfoliate, which adds about a minute.

Hair – well, that’s another story.

  4. Gaelle Lehrer Kennedy says:

(I meant to say it seems to me like it’s always warm in Singapore – typo slipped by me…)

  5. Tara says:

I agree with EcoBeauty, that’s really fast!! I take about 30 minutes to an hour to apply my skincare products and/or makeup. If I shower & wait for my hair to air dry as well, I’d take an additional hour or so. It’s considered a vast improvement to my previous 3-4 hours! Haha, honestly, i don’t know what the heck i was doing for so long.

  6. Joanna says:

where is the make up part?
or you don’t put make up on a daily basis?

  7. Ms. Blacklace says:

    I take around 30 mins:

    First 15 mins:
-Breakfast (I microwave my eggs and shove them down in less than 2 min)
    -Brush teeth
    -Shower
    -Wash face
-Clean underarms and the lady areas
-Keep hair dry at all times!
    -Towel body dry.
    -Put on clothes

    Next 5 mins:
    -Slap on sunsreen on face.
    -Blend well.

    Next 10 mins:
-Read email, apply deodorant and sunscreen while drying my fringe (it always gets wet even though I try to keep it dry)
    -Put on contacts (optional)

I tend to move in slow motions in the mornings. My mind is still asleep.

  8. sesame says:

Your 30 minutes is more fruitful than mine – still can prepare breakfast and read email. Heheh…thumbs up!

  9. sesame says:

I do but much later…sometimes an hour or two later. Anyway, makeup for me is about 3 minutes.

  10. sesame says:

3 – 4 hours??? Wow…but the air drying don’t really count does it? It means you leave it on to dry on its own?

  11. sesame says:

Well, the water in the morning is cold and it’ll take a longer time for the water to warm even with a heater. Some months are colder than others…like now…but come end Feb and March onwards, it should be quite hot.

  12. Joanna says:

3 mins??? may i know your make up routine ?

  13. sesame says:

Haha…you get to eat the eggs? But you have long hair. My hair is short and is manageable within 5 minutes.

  14. sesame says:

I can’t do without not blow drying my hair. I’ve been doing it for like 20 years or so!

Massaging face is good. If you’re young then you won’t see much of a difference but it’ll help maintain. Check my tutorials where I posted about the Tanaka facial massage.

  15. MissQ says:

oh my gosh… i take at least 75mins to get ready every morning!

5min – tie/band up hair and wash my face
10min – apply toner and serums
2min – rush to kitchen for a diluted ACV drink
5min – put on contact lenses
    5min – apply eye serum/cream
    5min – apply facial moisturizer to face/neck
    8min – apply sunscreen
    3min – apply eyeliner
    2min – apply primer
    3min – apply concealer
    8min – apply foundation/concealer touchup
    2min – eyebrows touchup
    2min – apply blusher
    2min – apply finishing
    5min – change clothes
    5min – touch up hair

In between everything, i have my breakfast ! >.<'''

  16. Suzy says:

    lets…see

my shower…if not shaving..then is around 25 mins max….not good to stay in shower for too long under steam…

I lather hair leave shampoo in for a while…I wash my body while I leave shampoo in…then rinse hair…again lather my hair…brush..rinse..and again make sure body is clean..lastly wash face..a min maybe…get out dry myself..let my face dry…..I get out…wait 15-30mins so my face is dry for tretinoin then wait another 35 min to 1 hr…and after I put on my face regime creams and eye cream…and go to bed..and winter…I tend to shower in the night…I rarely do baths…so I really don’t know how long it takes but skin care regime…takes less than 6 mins..to put on and jump in bed…

  17. Jo says:

3mins brush teeth, wash face, floss
    3mins wash hair
    3mins showering

    5mins Skincare
Hair just need to comb well, leave it to dry on it’s own as miracle protein will help it to dry with volume.

3mins select clothes and dress up

    Makeup done at workplace.

  18. sesame says:

I forgot about the brushing teeth part. Yeah, that takes me around 3 minutes as well.

  19. sesame says:

    Brrr…winter is so cold. I would avoid bathing… ? Haha…just kidding!

  20. sesame says:

Not bad…cos you get your breakfast and makeup done too within that 75 mins! I usually apply my makeup much later and if it’s a daily getup, then about 3 minutes is all I need. If it’s for a special occasion and I need to look more polished, the makeup might take about 10 mins.

But noticed you take 5 mins to put on contact lenses. I do get into problems some days putting them on but typically can do it in a minute. I guess you also cleanse your contact lens at the same time?

  21. MissQ says:

No I don’t but I do have some difficulty on certain days when it just keeps getting folded when I try to put it into my eyes! There were also afew times it either fell onto the floor or got stuck and folded in my eye and it wasted so much of my time! Haha.. Also before I wear my lenses, I go to the bathroom to wash my hands!

  22. sesame says:

I can emphatize with those thing you went through about your lenses! Once, I put on another set of lenses on top of the existing one, thinking I did not put on. the 2nd pair belonged to my husband! And as you guessed it, it was blurry vision! Hahaha…

But I waste most time running back home after leaving the house only to realize I’ve clean forgotten to put on my lenses!

  23. pf1123 says:

Sorry to butt in…but blowing dry wet hair is important in the morning. Especially if one has long hair and take MRT to work.

It is a little bit irritating to stand close to girls with long wet hair. As it is very cram in MRT nowadays, I cannot help but sometimes have to come into contact with wet long hair. And in the event that it is a hot humid day. Arrrgghhh…the wet hair + sweat smell…

  24. pf1123 says:

From the time I enter the bathroom to when I get out, its 20mins. Including brush teeth, wash face, skin care and makeup. Changing clothes take another 5mins.

No need to do anything to rebonded hair. After such expensive thing to do, I expect no additional fuss is required on day to day basis.

  25. BT says:

Sorry but I was wondering why you didn’t wash your hair in evening because our hair has been collecting tons of dust?

My morning routine is rather short since I don’t take bath in morning. I always shower before I jump into bed at night. (“v)

  26. fwy says:

In the morning, I will have a quick shower, apply facial oil on my face and then body lotion. As for makeup, I had stop putting them on for a few months as I am using rose hip oil at night on my face and I am trying to observe the effects the product will produce. I only wash my hair when I get home in the late evening while showering so that saves me some time in the morning.

  27. Anita says:

30 Minutes for all of that? Seriously? X_X Mine is much less intense and it still takes me 45 Minutes at least … Don’t you put on any makeup in the end?

  28. Chukulec says:

It takes me almost 2 hrs to get ready for bed because I do a 30 min cucumber mask every night.

  29. Ms. Blacklace says:

It’s because I don’t put on makeup that’s why it’s so quick. Haha.

Sometimes I take longer because my mind is so blank that I spend around 5 min just staring into space.

  30. sesame says:

Okay, I can understand what you mean by staring into space. I do that too in the early mornings…just stand under the shower and waste water. ?

  31. sesame says:

Oh a 30 min cucumber mask? Sounds refreshing and soothing!

  32. sesame says:

Maybe cos you have longer hair? My hair is short and manageable. I don’t put makeup till an hour or two later and my daily makeup routine is under 5 mins anyway.

  33. sesame says:

Rosehip oil is quite nice but rather rich when used alone for my skin. I like it mixed with some drops of water or with other oils.

  34. sesame says:

Because I only want to wash my hair once a day and I need to wash in the morning or I can’t head out of my home cos of the grease…I know what you mean about night washing but it’s something I compromise on so that my hair is not washed too excessively. My pillow is not so clean then…heheh…

  35. sesame says:

That’s pretty fast! I wish I don’t have to wash and blow dry my hair in the morning but no choice…

  36. sesame says:

I guess for some ladies with long hair, they have no choice cos no time. But I know what you mean…so I think for some of the readers here, they take time to air dry at home and that’s why their routine is so long.

  37. Chukulec says:

I cut thin slices of cucumber and put them all over my face for 30 min. In just 2 weeks, my skin got lighter and smoother. It really helps fade out the acne scars.

  38. LatestGirls says:

I hardly get any time such like yours to take care of my skin. Every morning I do have a hectic schedule and due to that I have to run through all the activities.

I wish someday when I am out of all this mess I will give more attention towards my skin care and health.

  39. sesame says:

Well, you should set aside some time for your skin and health…very important!

  40. sesame says:

Yes, I remember cucumber has some whitening benefits…I should try to get back to using them soon.

  41. astrorainfall @ beauty box says:

    Fascinating!

I think 30 minutes is short by many women’s standards! I have friends who disappear into the bathroom for three hours. It’s like a black hole for some folks.

I take about 45 minutes to do something similar to your routine.

  42. sesame says:

Three hours??? I wish I can afford that kind of time.

  43. Nechelle says:

In the morning i wake up 6;45am then read my daily bible verse on my phone, maybe it takes around 1 min.
15 mins – hula hoop (optional)
10-15 min – prepare quick breakfast (just bread, juice and fruits)
    25-30 min – bathroom
    Next 45 min :
    Apply deodorant
brush my hair (i usually blow dry my hair before i go out, i just let it air dry while i’m doing my routine)
Apply toner, eye cream, serum, moisturizer and sunscreen on my face & neck (except toner and eye cream).
Apply lip balm on my lips
    Apply body lotion
    put clothes on
    Apply bb cream
    Conceal dark circles and blesmishes
    Pat a little loose powder
    Filling in my eye brows
    Apply eye shadow (not everyday)
    Apply eyeliner
    Apply blush and lip gloss/lipstick
Spritz my face with face mist
Blow dry my hair for like 40 sec – 1min then brush.

    And I’m ready to go:)

  44. Nechelle says:

    hmmm i forgot 20 min breakfast ?

  45. kristine says:
