Review: Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Blemish Gel

This is like my third post on Thursday Plantation since I was introduced to the range earlier this year. Well, I have to say I’m quite impressed with the range and I want to reassess this product altogether after having used it quite extensively now. I gave this blemish gel a rating of 3 out of 5 hearts the last time but I think it’s time that I revise the rating up now.

Thursday Plantation, for those who are new to the brand, is a full range of products that are said to be naturally derived; free from parabens, petrochemicals, propylene glycol, laurly sulphates, polysorbates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic colours and animal derived ingredients with at least 70 per cent certified organic. This particular blemish gel contains 20% pure Tea Tree Oil, and is described as a concentrated formula to unblock sebaceous ducts, free of Benzoyl Peroxide for fewer side effects.

Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Blemish Gel 25g S$10.55

Ingredients: Water/Aqua, Polysorbate 60, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf oil, Alcohol, Isopropyl Myristate, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Camphor, Limonene.

The last time I reviewed this, I mentioned that I noticed that while the pimple I applied the gel on did subside and dried up a little, it didn’t heal quite as fast as when I use my usual oils. Well, since then, I’ve had more opportunities to test this blemish gel further and it works pretty quickly on small pimples. In fact, what prompted me to reassess this blemish gel again is because I tested it on my hubby, who grew a pimple right under his nose after eating too many chocolate chip cookies, and the pimple subsided, dried up and then promptly disappeared the next day! So this gel can work wonders for certain skin types. And the plus point is that it’s very affordable!

A tad drying but not too bad
Okay, the ingredients aren’t all natural and some of you may even find a few of them offending. I’ll say pimples are annoying but most of them do need something stronger to banish them. I’ve tried the Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Oil on my pimples but unfortunately, the oil couldn’t do what the gel could. So I’m okay with using this as a spot treatment. It dries up the pimple and makes healing a lot faster; you might notice that the skin on the spot you’ve applied the gel start to peel a day or two after but it’s not exactly that drying. But I have no idea if this gel will get rid of cystic acne, which are typically larger and more difficult to heal. Perhaps some of you have tried this blemish gel and have something to share about that?

I brought their essential oil instead of this blemish stick. The alcohol inside makes me say nono to it.
They do have the body cream for insects bites / dry skin rite?
I am thinking of getting that..

  2. Raelynn says:

The alcohol is also pushing me away from the blemish gel.. It almost feels as if alcohol is the one doing the work of drying up the blemish rather than the tea tree oil.

  3. karen says:

i bought the tea tree essential oil.. mm not very effective on me too. ?

  4. sesame says:

But I have some telling me that the oil works wonders for them. Personally tea tree oil works for me for other skin problems like rashes.

  5. sesame says:

Yeah…I always avoid alcohol but I stuck out with this one cos I use it as a spot treatment and it’s like I only apply once or twice on the spot. So far, didn’t feel excessive drying although yes, the skin peels a little.

  6. sesame says:

I think so…have seen that one around. I have the normal body cream and like that one for it works well to relieve my itchy skin.

  7. Lydia says:

Dealing with a lot of pimples at the moment and it’s driving me nuts! I’m happy it’s just the little ones but still!! Very annoying. I tried using tea trea oil but I can’t see any improvement so I gave up and resorted to more drying (and no natural cometic) products. At the moment I’m using the Spot Remover by Origins. I hope it works better. sigh.

Do remember using this several years back (maybe 10yrs? >.<) and since then the brand seemed to have disappeared but now it's back with more products and even appeared in ads lately!
The tea tree smell was quite strong (nothing unbearable though, felt quite therapeutic too, haha!) plus it worked for my then-pimples so I was pretty sad when it was no longer available in the recent years… Glad to see it back again! ?

  9. sesame says:

Yes, they’ve changed packaging and now have new offerings too. I used to recommend pple to try the brand but I only tried it out earlier this year. Agree about the smell…can be unbearable for first timers.

  10. sesame says:

Have you determined what’s the cause of your pimples? It’ll be good to trace the root cause and eradicate the problem there. (sorry if I have asked you before because I tend to forget due to the # of comments.)

  11. Carrie says:

I have this blemish gel at home as well. It does work well against small white heads, and I love the cooling sensation and the tea tree fragrance when applying it. But yes, it takes much longer to subside cystic acne. I find for the bad ones only topical cream prescribed by doctors are effective, such as Differin (prescription only medicine). But even with the prescribed cream it took me about a week to really get rid of severe ones! Though it’s a relief I don’t get pimples often!!

  12. Chris says:

I’ve never tried this gel, but I have used tea tree oil on pimple in the past and have had success. Another thing I use to dry out pimples is toothpaste.

  13. sesame says:

I’ve read about toothpaste but never tried it Understand that it works well for some pple.

  14. sesame says:

You know I cannot remember how I got rid of the cystic acne. I never used Differin or gone to see a doc. I just applied whatever oils – I think Emu oil and tree tree oil to some measure of success. But inevitably, the best way to get rid of them was by using Nexcare. I spent a lot of time trying to get rid of the scars though.

  15. Jacqueline says:

I love that you focused this blog on Tea Tree Oil. There are so many benefits from tea tree oil such as skin sores and nail fungal infections. Check out my blog http://www.freshskinforyou.blogspot.com for various skin remedies and my future post regarding Tea Tree Oil

  16. MissHu says:

I think I’ll try this when I’m done with my ICM pimple cream that only removed small pimples. The ICM pimple cream doesn’t stay on my face either so it’s not very effective.

  17. EcoBeauty says:

Hmmm…. I’m contemplating trying this out. I’m torn! ‘Cause my pimples aren’t usually the type that responds to TTO. But I think it won’t hurt to have an extra gun in my beauty arsenal for those just-in-case situations. ?

  18. sesame says:

It works quite well for the small ones. Good as a spot treatment.

  19. sesame says:

The good thing is this one isn’t too costly so no harm giving it a go.

  20. Chelsea says:

I had really bad acne with my first pregnancy, and I used the Burt’s Bees TTO for blemishes back then without much luck (however I LOVE TTO on my hair!) Luckily, my current pregnancy has been much kinder to my skin. However, all my old acne scars are still visible; do you know of any tricks or products that actually help fade these?

  21. Mai says:

s0me ppl t0ld me that the best way t0 get rid 0f pimples permanently is t0 squeeve 0ut all the pus & white thingy (head). Apparently this will prevent the pimple fr0m re-appearing & leaving any scars. H0wever mine hardly bec0me a full bl0wn pimple. It will gradually subside 0n its 0wn & i c0uld feel the hardness at the sp0t – n0t f0rgetting the scarring . Quite irritating. Am als0 pr0ne t0 tiny break-0uts n0wadays ? Never ending battle!! Might just try this 0ut & see h0w it w0rks 0ut.

D0 the MVO anti aging 0il plus helps t0 gradually fade ur scars ? I have been using it daily at night f0r the past 2 weeks praying it will. l0l. If n0t, any gd rec0mendati0ns?

  22. sesame says:

Squeezing is not really good for certain skin types. For me, my scars disappear on certain spots but not on my cheeks. They stay for awhile. The oils I use do fade them substantially but that would take awhile.

Rather than squeezing, using Nexcare to suck out the pus. Then the scarring is minimized.

  23. sesame says:

Some oils like rosehip oil can help fade scars gradually. Another DIY method is to use nutmeg and/or cinnamon mixed with honey but I’ll warn you that this is not for sensitive skin.

  24. fwy says:

The blemish gel contains alcohol? Guess I won’t be able to use it. However, I started using the facial cleanser from May 2011 & I must say it suits my skin. It has been 4 months & the the bottle is almost half full. I believe the facial cleanser in this range is indeed value for money.

  25. sesame says:

Yes, it does. Good that their facial cleanser works for you.

  26. Mai says:

    the tiny bumps have gave way t0 pimples & n0w i have like 0ver 14 scars 0n my face & every few days a new 0ne will p0pped up!!! i’m t0tally stressed l00kin @ the c0nditi0n 0f my skin :'( seri0usly i d0nt kn0w what went wr0ng. i st0pped using MVO 0il, thinking that might b the culprit but still the same situati0n. Maybe i sh0uld st0pped applying the MFS again & see h0w it g0es. . *sad*

  27. sesame says:

    Where do they appear?

  28. Mai says:

    cheeks & f0rehead..n0rmally i tend t0 get break0uts 0n my chin area but during these past mth its th0se 2 sp0ts.

  29. sesame says:

If it’s small pimples, it might be due to products. If it’s bumps like cystic acne, then it’s possibly internal. Cheeks has connections with your digestive system while forehead is usually a lack of sleep or stress.

  30. Mai says:

    It’s actually a mix 0f b0th..th0u i’m n0t s0 sure what exactly are cystic acne but there r s0me which fits the descripti0n. Need 2 l00k up 0n that. Hmm..i guess c0uld b the spicy f00d that i’ve been eating. True als0 that i’m sleep deprived. If th0se are the culprit then it will be easier. I seri0usly h0pe it’s n0t s0mething which i slather 0n my face.

    As always, i’m thankful f0r the time y0u take t0 answer my questi0ns & 0ffer y0ur opini0n. G0d bless y0u.

  31. sesame says:

Cystic acne is deep, inflamed acne from within the skin; if they get popped, they’ve most probably leave a scar.

  32. Stephy says:

Hi! Came across your website while I was googling for pimple creams. May I know where you purchased this thursday plantation tea tree blemish gel? Thanks! ?

  33. Sesame says:

You can get it from Guardian Pharmacy.

  34. Eva says:

Hi, I just started using the blemish gel so far it works fine but the result is slow.

By the way, do you know I can get the tea tree medicated gel for acne?

I have searched all around but still don’t find it. Is this actually launched in Malaysia?

  35. jenny says:

Hi, what oil you use to fade acne scar

  36. Sesame says:

I actually depend on exfoliation to rid of the marks and also vitamin c.

  37. Lynn says:
