DIY Beauty: milk powder for emergency pre-cleanse

Guess what I did when I ran out of my cream cleanser and could find no yogurt in my fridge? I snitched some of my son’s vanilla milk powder and made myself a milk paste as as a pre-cleanse. I’ve never tasted my son’s milk to find out if it’s tasty but it smells good though and it cleansed my face really well.

Exfoliating properties
It’s no wonder because milk powder contains lactic acid that can gently exfoliate skin. In fact, I found it to cleanse my face better than my usual cream cleanser. After just one round of light massage, my makeup were removed, with no traces of oily residue. Good job, milk powder!

Just add water
Okay, I used it because it was an emergency and don’t plan to use this long term; I need to use about 3/4 of a scoop to cleanse both my face and neck and heck, my son’s milk powder isn’t that cheap! But it’s an easy pre-cleanse remedy as only about a teaspoon of water is needed to mix the powder into a paste. You can also use this after cleansing and it works as an exfoliator so it’s very versatile in that sense. I’ve seen good reviews on it at Makeupalley so looks like I’m not the only ‘milk thief’ around.

Can use as a face mask too
Throw in some oat flour or rice powder and it’s good to be used as a face mask too. But I had to be careful not to let my son find out that I’ve used his milk powder or he’ll be quite upset with me. Worse, he may become so traumatized that mommy has been feeding him her face washing stuff all along! So keep this a secret for me k?

Oh it didn’t for you? I haven’t used it as a mask but I find it great for cleansing. For mask, I use fresh milk.

  5. sesame says:

Hope it’ll work well for you.

  6. sesame says:

Yeah, I think the anlene milk should also do. I tried to chill the mixture in the fridge before using and it’s great too…cool I say! Haha…

I use a mixture of milk powder and honey as a mask since fresh milk can turn rancid quickly, and I don’t drink milk so can’t keep milk in the fridge for a long-term basis. But I didn’t know that milk can cleanse away the makeup too. So, do you still use other kind of cleanser after that?

  8. sesame says:

I use it as a pre-cleanse and yes, it can remove makeup…at least my foundation. But I do use a foaming cleanser afterwards.

Hmmm… now to find out if fresh milk works. ?

  10. sesame says:

Fresh milk don’t work as well as powdered milk in terms of cleansing properties. With fresh milk, I can still feel the oily residue but less with powdered milk.

Interesting to know milk powder can work as pre-cleanse! Though I am hesitant to try as I don’t like the after smell of most dairy products. What I normally do when I have make-up on is using Extra Virgin Olive Oil as my pre-cleanse, rinse my face with water and wipe dry with a cotton pad. This would reduce the oil residue on my face and save the hassle of washing the facial cloth frantically to remove oil. Also, this won’t left my face feeling dry or tense afterwards ?

I’ve tried EVOO sometime ago but found it quite greasy and taking a longer time to cleanse again. But it does leave skin more moisturized.

    Hi…Very interesting…
i can’t find oat flour or rice powder… Any other option?
    Thanks.

  14. sesame says:

I know corn flour is good for oilier skin types. I won’t recommend baking soda although some people use it…I find it rather abrasive and will only use it around the nose or chin area.

  15. babysaffron says:

Oh…..so baking soda is a no-no….. Didn’t know that…. Will start to asked around doe rice flour or oat flour…
    Thanks….

tried this last night..(2 scoops of Karihome goat milk preschool formula and 1 calamansi (small lime)…as pre-cleanse

then papaya powder (1 tsp) and 1 tsp of baking soda as a face mask…

this morning I juiced an orange (drank the juice).. and used the pulp as my Toner (would this have the same effect as a Vitamin C serum)??

  17. Sesame says:

The juice has some whitening effects but I would advice you to use it during the night than the day as the ingredient is photosensitive.
