This product looks interesting and according to Livestrong, com, zinc oxide is one of the safest ingredients for UV protection and it also acts as an astringent so it shouldn’t be too oily? Zinc oxide is effective for healing sunburn and wounds too.
Angela last post is: Can Alpha Hydroxy Acids remove brown spots?

  2. Sesame says:

It can cause oiliness for some skin types because in high concentration, zinc oxide is drying and the skin may have to secrete more oil just to keep it from drying out.

Looks good! I noticed they have a new line “1000 Roses” on their website, targeting sensitive skin. They seem like an interesting company.

Hi Sesame, I stumbled upon your website and hoy, it opened up my eyes to the effects chemicals in our daily products and how important it is to go natural! Thanks for sharing. I would like to ask what natural brands of loose powder do you recommend? I notice the term “mineral foundation” but it looks powdery rather than the traditional liquid foundation. Can you eleaborate and recommend good ones too? Thanks.

  5. Sesame says:

For loose powder, you can try Aubrey Organics Silken Earth. I found it to be good enough. For mineral foundation, it is powdery and quite similar to loose powder. I like LA Splash and currently, Alima.

  6. Michelle says:

Thanks Sesame. Can you share what’s the difference between loose powder and mineral foundation? I found Aubrey Organics Silken Earth on iherb and it seems quite pricey. Where can I find LA splash and Alima? Are there also eye shadows that are natural/chemical free?
I also want to share that I started using Giovanni Wellness system products with Chinese Botanicals 2x about 2 weeks ago, went away for a business trip , and when I returned yesterday and wash my hair again, only dropped 1-2 strands compared to the 10-15 strands each wash previously. Can the effect be so immediate?

  7. Sesame says:

The difference is in the ingredients and loose powder tend to be matt. Mineral foundation tends to reflect light. Both LA Splash and Alima Pure are US brands. Where are you based? If in Singapore, LA Splash is available at selected Guardian Pharmacies. As for Alima, you can try naturelova.com. Yes, the eye shadows are made of natural minerals too. I have a new review on Alima Pure. You can look it up on my homepage.

Wow, sounds like you have found something useful for your hair. What is this Chinese Botanicals you’ve mentioned?

  8. Michelle says:

Sesame, thanks for the additional info. Yup, I’m based in Spore. The shampoo cum serum products are from Giovanni Wellness range with Chinese botanicals. I bought the shampoo, hair serum and styling hair elixir from below URL I also spot more baby hair growing at my hairline.

    Hi There,

I am new to your site , but luv it! I tried the BB and it’s not for me, rashed up and then found out its not truly natural ingredients. I am a UV Natural user and have been for a long time due to having Melasma. It cured my condition and over the years the company just seems to be improving the formula. I noticed after reading your blog in 2009 that you said it used micronzied zinc, but that info isn’t correct. When all the nano hype was happening, I contacted the companies that were using micro zinc etc. None of them wanted to speak to me :(( but UV natural sent me all their data etc to prove how pure their product was. I don’t get the drying part on my skin, nor does it go white like you said in your blog, I think sunscreen has to dry on your skin so that it works?Maybe you tried the old formula? Anyhoo, I was gutted when wholefoods said that UV natural wasn’t in stores in the US anymore. I got so worried because my dermatologist told me that was the best sunscreen to use for my health, he said also that the gov proved that hte nano hype was jsut that and it is better to use> Phew, thank god the company sells it on line now and ships anywhere in the world. They said they were going to be relaunching in the US in 2015, with new products as well, I can’t wait. So any peeps that need it like me, you can still buy it.

I saw their CC cream. It contains rosehip oil. Is it okay to use a day product with this oil?

  12. Sesame says:

It should be fine. I have issues using rosehip oil alone these days but in a formula as one of the ingredients, I find it okay. But I’m not sure if your question actually means if it’s okay to use a product with rosehip oil in the day. If so, it is fine too.

  13. kay says:

Thanks. I read somewhere that rosehip has carotene and unsafe to use when exposed to the sun. But since it is just a part of the ingredients I will give it a try.

  14. Sesame says:

The oil contains provitamin A (mostly beta-Carotene) which is good for sun protection. The confusion is the mix up with lab created vitamin A, which is Synthetic Tretinoin and that one is strong. The vitamin A in rosehip oil is natural and not harmful to our skin.

  15. kay says:

Thanks for clearing that up. Too many scare mongers out there.

  16. H says:

It wouldn’t be good to use by itself as sun protection because it is a bb cream, unless you put a lot on. Because it is a bb cream you are going to use less of it than you should to attain the spf value (with regular sunscreen people only put about a third needed for spf value. With foundation with spf, people only put about a seventh because if you put more on you’d be a cake face, other than makeup usually has low spf anyway).

  17. H says:

I have tried it and it is VERY oily. In my opinion, buy only for dry skin.

  18. H says:

What I didn’t exactly make clear above: the reason is since it is like foundation, makes people more likely to treat it like a foundation than sunscreen. Because of that, you should put spf under it. To get the correct amount of sunscreen you should use a nickel sized amount (people use only about a third this as I mentioned) of sunscreen on face. Then you can apply your bb cream like foundation and not look like a cake face.
