Kanga Organics: affordable organic skin care

Skin Blossom

Today, I’m happy to introduce Kanga Organics, a new online store based in Singapore selling organic skin care products. Owner Joey Lam decided to start this setup in a bid to bring in affordable, yet authentic organic products into the local market because she was exasperated with the limited, yet expensive organic skin care lines available here. So Kanga Organics was founded on the philosophy of “sharing the joy of using affordable organics for everyone” as well as a way of giving thanks to Mother Earth.

Affordable price range under Skin Blossom
Kanga Organics carries two imported organic range and their prices are indeed affordable. An Organic Bloom Nourishing Face Moisturizer for example, cost about S$20 under the brand Skin Blossom, which is a range of organic product certified by the UK Soil Association and also registered with the Vegan Society. The range of products, from face to body care, are said to be suitable for all skin types as the products use organic plant extracts and ingredients.

Ola Hawaii

Variety of bath & body products from Ola Hawaii
The other brand is Ola Hawaii, a collection of luxury spa line made authentically in Hawaii. The prices are higher than that of Skin Blossom but even then, you won’t find anything above S$40. The range comprises many bath and body products like scrubs, wash, lotions, and mists. They also have a series of Kalo Enriched Face Masks which retails at S$32.50 each. Definitely quite attractive price points if you ask me.

Skin Blossom & Ola Hawaii

Products available for touch and feel
I have actually come across the Ola Hawaii range prior to knowing about Kanga Organics. However, Skin Blossom is a range I’ve not read about. The products are basic, nothing fanciful but good enough for bath and body really. In fact, the Organic Bloom hand cream really caught my eye and the price is really very affordable!  For customers who need to touch, feel and smell the products prior to purchasing, Joey has also placed her Skin Blossom products at Oasis Organic, #01-49, Shaw Tower.  In addition, you can also check out her products at the Fashionista Series 3 event happening at SMU concourse next Saturday, 19 Sept, from 1pm to 8pm.

Products are all HSA compliant
Anyway, I ran a check with Joey and understand that all her products are notified with HSA here and she also ensures that they are HSA compliant in terms of the ingredient listing. So that’s giving local consumers more peace of mind for sure.

Special promotion for Viva Woman readers
Kanga Organics provides free delivery within Singapore for orders above S$65 and the good news is that Viva Woman readers can get a lifetime of 10% discount on all products!  YAY!  What is needed is that you type Viva Woman under remarks upon checkout at the Kanga Organics website. That’s all! So if you’re from Singapore and are interested in affordable organic bath and body products, head over to the website to check out!

Ever since I finally found my HG moisturizer, I have kinda lost interest in other brands. But this brand sounded interesting given that it’s both organic yet cheap.

I was reading back your post on cold pressed oils and I’ve been using Kiehl’s Superbly Restorative Skincare set which includes argan oil.

My skin absorbed the oil very quickly, thus my face doesn’t feel oily at all. You should try the skin salve.

Thanks for the highlight. It seems that the product is mark up at different levels…depending on where they’re sold. But did you manage to see the vitamin C powder? I’m interested to get that one again.

Ooh sounds interesting. 🙂 I noticed that at least 1 of the Skin Blossom products contains “Alcohol Denat”. Does anyone know what that is? I found quite a few conflicting posts about it.

Raelynn gave good info on alcohol denat. Personally, I would avoid this ingredient especially if it’s high up on the ingredient list. It can be drying when used long term.

i havent seen the vitamin c powder yet as i happen to be on their mailing list and they sent me an email regarding the sunscreen.. will update you on it if i go pass =)

    dear miss vinny.
well, alcohol denatured in general is used for medical purposes and cosmeceutical purposes. it is denatured in such a way that it tastes bitter and yet high in alcohol content, to discourage ppl from drinking it as it is cheap and not as heavily taxed as other forms of alcohol (i think, for the tax part). alcohol denatured acts as an astringent on oily skin, hence you would notice that most oily skin products would contain it. whether it is a concern or not for other skin types, depends on whether the content of alcohol denat is high on the list or not. a rule of thumb is that dehydrated skin types should avoid alcohol denatured as it will act as a further astringent, but if you can come across a sample of the product before buying the full sized would be good, just to see your skin’s tolerance for alcohol denat.

also, just fyi, alcohol denat is sometimes labeled as SD Alcohol, or specifically denatured alcohol. =)

Maybe I can try to call them to check…or when I’m in the area. Definitely won’t mind getting from them if it’s cheaper. 😉

    Hi Miss Vinny,

I’m actually asking Ms. Cristina Beetham the creator of Skin Blossom range to clarify on the use of Alcohol Denat in SB’s products, and once I get a reply from her, I will update everyone here. Hope that will give more product assurance to everyone that it is safe to use. In general, certified organic products by the UK Soil Association is pretty much assured, as compared to a few other certifying bodies. SB range’s popularity is growing fast in UK, and do look out for my press review page on the Kanga Organics website which should be up soon in the next 2 days. 🙂

I think it’s moderately safe for skin according to Skin Deep’s database but the concern is that it is drying for the skin when used long term.

Kanga Organics deliver within Singapore currently. You probably can get sources within your country for them but you’ll need to find the source online.

    Hi Everyone,
Here’s the reply I received from Cris, the creator of Skin Blossom, hope it clears queries for all:

    Quote:
    Hi Joey,

I read the comments thanks. The reason we use Alcohol Denat is to help bind the formula, it also acts as a preservative and helps to firm and tone the skin. It is derived from plants as you know and in our products the Alcohol Denat is certified organic. The quantities of it in the Skin Blossom Organic Bloom Gentle Cleansing Milk is not sufficient to dry out the skin and our cleanser is suitable for all skin types. It is really gentle and even suitable to take eye make-up off.

As you say our products are certified by the Soil Association. The Soil Association standards are based on principles that require the maximum amount of organic ingredients, minimum synthetic ingredients, minimum processing of ingredients and clear labelling so that the consumer can make an informed choice about the product they are purchasing. The standards also contain criteria that means ingredients must be assessed to not be harmful to human health and their manufacture and use must cause minimum environmental impact. See this link for more information. http://www.soilassociation.org/Takeaction/Buyorganic/Healthandbeauty/FAQs/tabid/348/Default.aspx

    End quote.

Hey Joey, thanks for the info. =) It was very very helpful.

And Raelynn, I didn’t know that about Alcohol denat. Thanks. 🙂

To Sesame: as always, your posts are invaluable. And finally, I’m going to switch to organic products.

People have died on the operating room table even with the
best of care. However, apart from beauty purposes, nose jobs are also used to correct problems that might have occurred due to a misshapen nose, such as breathing.
Some are dissatisfied with their natural noses, some have incurred injuries
to their noses, and some do not like how aging has changed their noses.
