I mentioned awhile ago that I’ve been having problems wearing lip glosses and lipsticks. My lips became very dry especially under air-conditioned environment and I had these white clumpy stuff from whatever I’m wearing on my lower lips. Needless to say, I looked awful. At first I thought it was the ingredients from my lip glosses and lipsticks causing some allergies but apparently it was not. The issue was the dead skin on my lips which I never thought of removing!
Lip scrub challenge
Because the skin around our lips are particularly thin and has no oil glands, so scrubbing them can be a challenge. Plus I wanted a method that does not require me having to spend more.
I tried regular facial scrubs but obviously, they didn’t work for me. I tried using a toothbrush and a washcloth to scrub my lips but both methods did not work well either. I mentioned a DIY method which is to use Aspirin lip scrub with a finely crushed, uncoated aspirin with a little white granulated sugar and a bit of jojoba oil for moisture. However, being lazy, I preferred to exfoliate my lips with a readily available product.
Exfoliating beads containing Jojoba & AHA
A friend suggested using Benefit Dr. Feelgood Lipscription because the tube of buffing lip beads is loaded with jojoba and AHA to exfoliate dry, flaky lips which had worked extremely well for her. I gave this some thoughts and felt that the Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser I was using on my face might just do the trick for my lips since it contains those key ingredients.
And it does!
The cleanser contains both beta hydroxy acid (BHA) and alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) to accelerate the skin renewal process and loosen dead skin cells. In addion, it also jojoba seed oil. The exfoliating beads are really fine and work extremely well for the thin lips. I just have to be careful to keep my mouth shut!
No more dry flaky lips
I’ve use this exfoliating cleanser about thrice a week and I try to remember to scrub my lips each time. I have to say my lips felt really smooth and soft after each scrub. No negative reactions whatsoever. And the best part is that I noticed that I don’t have those white clumy stuff on my lower lips anymore! I’m so happy!
So ladies, do you exfoliate your lips frequently? Have you used an AHA or BHA lip exfoliator? If not, what has worked for you?
