Canmake Eyelash Essence for longer lashes
Sunday, 4 May 2008While writing my entry on Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler Eye Treatment last week, I came across many forumers raving about Canmake Eyelash Essence which is an eyelash base that increases volume while also conditioning damaged eyelashes. In fact, 14 reviewers at Makeupalley also gave the product the thumbs up, contributing to the 4.4 out of 5 rating.
Most of them reported results after using it for about two weeks and the best part is that it only cost S$13.90, compared to the other more expensive brands like Talika or Mavala.
Described as containing conditioning agents panthenol and lavender extract, this product helps protect your lashes throughout the day, hydrating them and providing them with greater firmness. Because it is transparent, you can also use it as a base before using an eyelash curler to give your lashes a longer-lasting curl or as a base for your mascara, increasing volume and helping in the application.
So if you’re in the market for a cost effective eyelash product, check out Canmake Eye Lash Essence. In Singapore, you can find it at selected Watson’s such as those at Bugis, Parkway Parade, Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Junction 8 and Ngee Ann City as well as Guardian at Suntec City.

Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler Eye Treatment
Monday, 28 April 2008I am totally amazed with the new Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler Wrinkle-Filling Eye Treatment. Not because it reduced wrinkles around my eyes, but because it stimulated the growth of my eyelashes, and those on my lower eyelid are visibly longer and thicker just two weeks after applying this eye cream! I know this sounds incredulous that an eye cream can stimulate the growth of eye lashes but I swear this is true. I have not used anything else around my eye area or on my eyelashes except for my Lavera Eyegel but I’m very certain it was the Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler Eye Treatment that was causing my eyelashes to grow because nothing had happened to them prior to my application of the Eucerin product.
Hyaluronic acid stimulates hair growth
I understand that hyaluronic acid is a jelly-like natural substance that fills the space between collagen and elastin fibres in our body and is said to play an important role in maintaining volume in our skin by plumping up the skin from the inside out and make it appear smooth with their enormous moisture binding capacitiy. But I never knew about its connections with hair growth until I did further research online and found out that apparently, fragments of hyaluronic acid stimulate hair growth (source) and some shampoos like Kevis Shampoo even contain patented high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid to fight DHT(Dihydrotestosterone) which is responsible for about 95% of hair loss.
So using the new Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler Eye Treatment actually grows my eyelashes!
Anti-wrinkle claims
Well, eyelashes aside, I wish I can say that this eye treatment is also amazing at erasing the wrinkles around my eyes. According to Eucerin, this is supposed to work immediately upon application, attracting moisture from the surrounding to plump up the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This claim is definitely exaggerated for my case as I didn’t see an immediate result. But, I can see this product delivering some positive results in the longer term to relieve some of my fine lines because I’m seeing a slight improvement to the area nearer to my nose bridge.
Texture and application
Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler Eye Treatment feels fine and light even though it is in cream form. I just have to dab about three small dots and that is sufficient to nourish my eye contour. It feels warm and tingling upon application so you know it’s doing something to the skin. And because of this, I’m not sure those with sensitive skin can tolerate the product.
I only use the product in the day because it is also said to contain SPF10 although I cannot see which ingredient delivers that.
Ingredients:
Aqua, Glycerin, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, C18-36 Acid Triglyceride, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Hydrogenated Coco-Glycerides, Cetyl Palmitate, Behenyl Alcohol, Methylpropanediol, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Glycine Soja, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Bis- Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Ethylhexyl Triazone, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Stearyl Alcohol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Silica, Dimethicone, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Trisodium EDTA, Methylparaben, DMDM Hydantoin, Propylparaben, BHT, CI 77891, CI 77491
Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler Eye Treatment is available at S$51 at both Guardian and Watson’s amd I’m rating the product 3 out of 5 hearts because even though it didn’t deliver immediately as promised, I now have longer and fuller eye lashes because of using it.

Erth mineral eyeshadow review
Wednesday, 26 March 2008I received these eyeshadows from Erth Mineral Makeup sometime ago but didn’t experiment with them until about a month or two ago. Initially, I found the violet, sea & moss in the same order as the picture above too light for my liking but recently, I’m loving these sparkly shades for a soft and sheer hue.
I don’t like to use a lot of eyeshadows and I usually just use a dark green to shade the crease so these barely there sheer eyeshadows work well for me as a lid color without looking overdone. But they’re still obvious because even my 5-year-old noticed them. I also have the Eye Elements Quad Kit consisting of forest, coal, cocoa & madura which come with minimal sheen and these are great for crease contouring and works well for me as eyeliners too.
Actually, violet, sea & moss are part of Erth Mineral’s 7-piece Erthly Kit which include four other sparkly shades earth, loam, rose, & poppy and are priced at US$18.95. There is also an Erth Minerals Intense Eye Shadows Collection for those who prefer deeper and brighter eyeshadow pigments. I think leaf & river look delicious!
I also learnt that Erth Mineral has introduced new summer colors with four new sparkly shades: silt, russet, turquoise, & deep purple under the Eye Ethereal Collection as in the picture and you can get them for US$13.95.
Erth mineral eyeshadows are 100% natural and contain pure crushed minerals namely mica, titanium dioxide, iron oxides with no preservatives, no chemicals, and no dyes. Some may also contain tin oxide & ferric ferrocyanide. I am happy with them as they blend well, do not smudge and has good staying power.
Except for the intense collection, Erth mineral eyeshadow cost US$5.25 each and comes in a 5 gram jar with 2 grams of product. That’s quite a bit to last a while but I do wish these eyeshadows are put in sifter jars to prevent unnecessary wastage.

Benefit Eye Bright to conceal dark circles
Monday, 10 March 2008I bought Eye Bright from Benefit Cosmetics as it looks easy enough to use and I love quick fixes! All I have to do is to draw a few short strokes with this miraculous pink pencil around my eye area -specifically between the bridge of my nose, the inner and outer corners of my eye, as well as toward the end of my brows - to brighten up my tired eyes for that young, wide-awake look.
But alas. Despite the many raves by the ladies at Makeupalley, I didn’t notice any much difference when I used Benefit Eye Bright the way it is described. Perhaps it doesn’t work so well on my fair skin?
In fact, I almost gave it up until I decided to try the tip from Bobbi Brown, who said the best way to brighten up extremely dark under-eye dark circles is to start with a pink or peach toned corrector, then layer on with a yellow-toned concealer.
Because Benefit Eye Bright has a smooth, creamy texture and is a perfect shade of brightening pink, it helps to conceal my dark under-eye circles well. I draw a few strokes under my eyes, blend it lightly, layer with my Everyday Minerals concealer and voilà, the end result is better than what I’ve shown in my earlier entry use under-eye concealer to look younger!
On its own, this pink pencil doesn’t achieve anything for me but it works well as an under-eye concealer when layered with a yellow-toned concealer so I’m pretty much happy with it still.
Benefit Eye Bright is US$18 online. Additionally, I got the dual sharpener at US$5 because I learnt that most of Benefit’s pencils do not work with the usual sharpeners.
