LashMantra: 100% natural eyelash serum
Tuesday, 21 April 2009
I began using LashMantra sometime in March and am happy to report that my eyelashes are now darker, thicker and longer. To prove my point, I have a before-and-after picture in the middle of this post to show everyone.
Contains 18 pure cold pressed oils
LashMantra is not the first eyelash growth product I have used, but it is the first 100% natural eyelash serum I’ve tried. It’s made by my blogging friend Leon and includes 18 pure cold pressed oils including Pomegranate Seed , Argan, Walnut and Vitamin E loaded with Gamma Linolenic Acids, Alpha Linolenic Acids, Oleic Acid, Punicic Acid, Amino Acids, zinc, proteins, vitamins and antioxidants. And unlike those products that I’ve tried before, LashMantra is free from artificial fragrance, colorant, parabens, synthetic preservatives and chemicals.
Two options to apply the serum
On the website, instructions are that you can apply the oil on your lashes with your fingers or using the mascara wand that come along with the product. I choose the wand because my clumsy fat fingers were not able to dab the oil on my lashes properly. However, I had a little trouble using the wand applicator initially too because it was rather fat and it was only after a few trials that I got my act in place. Leon confirmed that she’s replacing the mascara wand with an eyeliner applicator from May so I’m hoping the application will be easier using that instead.
100% safe for my eyes
The best thing I found about using LashMantra is that I don’t have to worry about the oil getting into my eyes. In fact, it happened a few times when I had too much oil on the wand and it dripped right into my eyes. All I needed to do was to use a tissue paper to dab the oil off and my eyes didn’t experience any irritation, itchiness or soreness. Lucky too that the serum is oily but it isn’t sticky!
Can apply serum directly on the base of the lash line
My lower eyelashes are actually very sparse; so bad that the end of my eyes are actually hairless. Because of the 100% natural oils, I could apply LashMantra eyelash serum directly on the base where my eyelash grows out. This was something I never dared to do with the non-natural eyelash serums because of the fear that the chemicals would get into my eyes.
Takes about 2 – 4 weeks to see results
As you can see from the picture, my eyelashes are now darker, thicker and longer. Realistically, it takes about 2 to 4 weeks to see some good results from using LashMantra although this may vary individually. Compared to Canmake Eyelash Essence which gave me very fast results, LashMantra took a longer time but the growth was more significant than using Canmake Eyelash Serum.
Trim the eyelash for the oil to work better
Leon told me that I can trim my eyelashes at the ends if I wanted them to grow faster with the serum but I didn’t. I was also a bit lazy and forgot to apply the serum on some nights. But judging from the picture, the serum did quite well for my lashes in just two weeks isn’t it? I also applied some of the serum to my eyebrow initally but stopped because I realized that they were also growing longer!
Competitively priced against natural and non-natural serums
LashMantra is not the only 100% natural eyelash growth serum in the market. But at US$48 (including shipping charges), the product is probably one of the more competitively priced natural eyelash growth serum. In fact, LashMantra’s price is quite close to Talika Eyelash Lipocils, one of the more popular eyelash growth product which isn’t even natural to begin with. In addition, compared to the non-natural eyelash serums which can only be kept for between three and six months, LashMantra can be kept for one to two years and I’ll say a bottle will last you a very long time!
Unsophisticated product packaging
The packaging of LashMantra is nothing glossy or fanciful; it comes in a 15ml glass bottle with crystal dropper and an additional mascara container all packed in a handcrafted jute bag. But I’ll say don’t judge a book by the cover; afterall the product is handmade and it works!
Special discount code for Viva Woman readers
LashMantra cost US$48 including international shipping charges but Leon has extended a special price of US$45 to readers here from now till August 1, 2009. Just type in discount code VIVAWOMAN to enjoy the special price. To find out more about the natural eyelash serum, check out the website at LashMantra.

ok. this is so cool! and i can really see significant growth for the lower lash! i have a bottle of castor oil, which claims to work wonders too. but i just keep forgetting to use it. use for a day, then forget about it for 2 weeks. so, till now i still see no result.
Prettybeautiful: I read about castor oil too but haven’t tried it. With natural stuff, you need to have more patience cos results are not instant.

I’m just wondering if the effects last if you stop. I’ve used these serums before – it worked while I was using it but after I stopped the lash just “shrank” back to regular length or rather the effect was no longer as dramatic.
Paris: I think that’s the norm cos our eyelashes will drop and new ones will grow. So you need to constantly maintain them with such serums. Although we’ll all wish the results are permanent.

Wow it actually works!!! Yay for Sesame! =)

Does this product work on eyebrows as well?
Chickie: It does! I tried it for a few times and noticed that my eyebrows were getting darker. However I stopped because I also found them growing longer and I was too lazy to want to trim them that often.

Wow! Seems like a great product!
But if I use it, my eyes will be covered by hair like bushes. hehee…
pf: Hey, I don’t think you actually need such products cos I saw your pics. You’re the opposite of me!

Hehee…I told you I’ve got thick hair. I’ve got bushy eyebrows and lashes too. But thank goodness…my eyebrows are shaped like that naturally. I hardly bother with them at all.
And I realised that in those pics, my mascara application isn’t too fantastic. Ooops! XP
pf: Yes, and both your eyelashes and eyebrows are rather dark too. Me and my pathetic sparse eyebrows and eyelashes…

Hey, but your eyes and brows are so elegant!
I envy girls with fine brows because they look so gentle.
Today I overdid my dark brown eyeshadow and I look like an angry panda without sleep for days.
pf: You know…the grass always look greener on the other side. Hee…

I just stumbled upon this blog and was reading about the lash product you recently tried. I live in California, USA and one of the most popular products in the States is Revitalash. It’s amazing! Reasonably priced and lasts 5-6 months. You’ll see significant growth in about 8-9 weeks. I hear the company just launched a mascara, which I can’t wait to try! Looks like you have a lot of readers looking for gorgeous lashes—so I wanted to give Revitalash a plug, since I’ve had such great success with it…
Chantal: That’s great! I’m glad Revitalash helped you…it sounds quite similar to LashMantra.

Well, it’ll take awhile but effects seem more long lasting than the others I’ve tried cos my lashes have stayed long after using it for awhile.

Hi..
Just want to check where is this product from? Can i get lash mantra from San francisco or New york?
I travel to this 2 countries often so would be cheaper to get from there?

I believe it does because I’ve heard so much raves on the product. My only gripes is…it is expensive.
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:43 pm
I’m about to order a bottle of this for my mom and maybe for me to try sometimes. hehe She was considering Latisse, but I did a little research online. That stuff is kind of scary! It can change your eye color, and it’s pretty expensive. I’m optimistic that this product will work well for my mom, especially since she (and I) have pretty sensitive bodies. Sensitive skin, sensitive eyes, sensitive everything!
Have you kept up with it? How long did a bottle last you? Are the results still fantastic?
Thanks for the great review!! The before and after pictures really helped me trust the product more.

I haven’t been that diligent. But the good thing is my lashes haven’t dropped and the length has been maintained. I need to apply more frequently…
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:49 pm
Oh, and I forgot to ask if you know if the creator updated the method of application. Thanks again!

Yes, she is now using the eyeliner and that’s easier to apply. One bottle can last you a long time actually…maybe a year even.
July 28th, 2009 at 9:53 am
Wow your eyelashes are still the same after over three months? That’s great!
I just received the bottle today, and my mother and I are so excited to try it. I’m afraid to snip the tips of my eyelashes, though. I don’t want to hurt myself. lol If you don’t mind, I will try to remember to come back in a month or so to comment about my results.

Hopefully you’ll get good results too. I think my eye cream is also helping. It contains some natural oils so that seems to be nourishing my lashes too.

At the moment, I use two. True Bio Skin Care Active Eye Gel in the daily and Organic Apoteke Eye Cream in the night. The first one works to an extent, but not as much as I hope. The 2nd one I just got started so too early to tell.
For sunscreen, maybe you want to read this post to have an idea. http://www.vivawoman.net/2008/03/06/tips-on-sunscreen-protection-application/

Hihi,
I saw from ur other review on the Canmake Eyelash Essence. However, i did not find them in Watsons Stores in Orchard like Taka. However, i saw another similar product by Canmake, dont know if they did a facelift? Any idea?
I am pondering whether to get Talika or Lash Mantra. Do u have any idea if Sephora at Ion Orchard sells Talika products? Or where can i find them in Retail?
I have problem showing my comments on ur other review pages. Dont know what’s the problem?

Joanne: I apologise that your comments got caught in the spam box but I’ve since cleared them.
I’m not so sure if Canmake has a new packaging. There’s one that is dark blue but it’s a different one.
For Talika, I did not try it. The reviewer was someone else who wrote about her experience. I saw it at Sephora at ION and also in a shop at AMK Hub.
I haven’t tried Talika but I suspect this product might give you faster results. LashMantra is slower – took me a few weeks – but the good thing is that the effects are lasting plus it’s very safe to use on our eyes.
August 24th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
Thanks Sesame. So you have not tried Talika before? I saw some feedbacks online that it’s really good, but some people will have irritations? I thought i saw a review on it in ur blog
So the Lash Mantra and Canmake, which 1 produces better results? In terms of long, dense and curl?
Thk u!

Well, I actually have pretty good news about this product!
Application is easy, and the oil does often get into my eyes. It is a tad uncomfortable, but I don’t get worried because of the all natural ingredients. I always apply it to my lower lashes before my upper lashes so that there’s less of a chance of it leaking onto my eyeballs. lol
I’m not very good with routines, but for the first three weeks, I applied it every night. However, to be honest, since then I have gone days without applying this simply out of forgetfulness or laziness. lol So out of the past 60 or so days, I’ve probably applied it a total of about 40 nights.
That said, I started noticing tiny growths of hair along my lash lines about two and a half weeks after I had begun applying. After that, I didn’t care to check out the progress, and apparently didn’t care as much about continuing the regime (shame, shame, I know lol). Today, I took a picture with my eyes looking down, and noticed that my eyelashes looked very dark and noticeable even though the picture was taken far away, a little blurry, and with a camera phone.
Though I’ve always had long, thick eyelashes, I have seen a significant fullness overall. My lower lashes look a little longer and more numerous. I don’t wear any make-up, so what you see is exactly as they are!
Overall, I would give this product an “A-”. I give the minus simply because I wanted my lashes to be a little thicker. Perhaps if I had followed the regime more precisely I would have gotten those results! Oh well. Great product! Thanks for recommending it to us all, Sesame!
