DIY Beauty: aspirin & green tea for acne spots

DIY Beauty: aspirin & green tea for acne spots

I don’t know what’s come over me but I haven’t been a good girl with my diet.  I was rather disciplined for awhile but I’ve reverted to eating lots of junk food, chocolates and ice creams.   Now, I’m paying the price, breaking out with big pimples on my left cheek!  Because the Lavera Blemish Stick Concealer is only effective on small pimples on my forehead,  I decided to try another DIY spot acne recipe.  This time using aspirin, green tea and tea tree oil.

Use DIY recipes with care
Before I share the recipe, I’ll like to add a disclaimer here that you should exercise caution when trying DIY recipes.  Some ingredients may work for me, but may backfire on others.  So please, follow with care!  I wanted to say this in particular to this recipe as one of the ingredients is aspirin.  Although may people have reported success using aspirin mask, personally, I don’t like to use this on my entire face.  It breaks my skin into little small bumps!  But on small areas, it’s still okay.

Aspirin to replace brewer’s yeast
Anyway, I wanted to draw out my headless pimples and had come across a recipe using brewer’s yeast.  However, I couldn’t get my hands on brewer’s yeast and decided to try using aspirin, green tea powder and tea tree oil instead.

Ingredients used
Since I was only using it as a spot treatment, I didn’t need a lot.  This was what I used:
– one crushed tablet of aspirin
– a quarter of a teaspoon of green tea powder
– a quarter of a teaspoon of floral water (distill water possible)
– three drops of tea tree oil

Dab on spot and left overnight
These ingredients were then mixed into a paste which I used to dab on my spots.  After which, I used the hojotape to hold the paste in place.  I then went to sleep.  I did this for three nights in a row and by the third morning, the pimples was drawn out and was ready to pop!

Aspirin sloughing off skin debris
It was funny that the skin on the spots were peeling when I was washing my face and I realized that the skin debris was being sloughed off because of the aspirin which contains acetylsalicylic acid. However, one ruptured when I rubbed it the wrong way. Fortunately, the manuka honey I used helped subsided the inflammed spot and now, it’s healing quite well and the spot is a lot smaller. As for the other one, the pimple sort of hardened and after a few application of manuka honey, turned into a small red spot.

Need to restraint from popping
I’m not sure if I would try this recipe again though because the headless pimple, when drawn out, can make one feeling like popping it. A lot of restraint is definitely required!  So use with care!

i find that this is a great mask! my skin feels softer and smoother after the asprin mask.. i use it with honey, green tea or aloe vera depending on my mood.. haha.. haven been buying commercial masks after i started using the manuka honey and the asprin mask.. one for hydration, one for exfoliation.. may i know if you know of any mask that helps in toning down mild rosacea condition? thanks! i really like your posts.. gives lots of ideas on diy skincare :)

I have read that oatmeal and olive oil might be good for rosacea condition. Generally, something light and mild is good. I think green tea should work too. I also understand that it’s better not to use clay or mud if you have this skin condition.

Hey thanks for your comments! I’m glad you find some of the info here relevant. :)

I use one aspirin tablet for my blackheads..I dissolve them and then spread in my tzones. Sure gets lots of blackheads out! I squeeze them all out..it’s bad I know but it’s way efficient than blackheads strip as in the long run the strips enlarge the pores a lot, I’ve experienced that! Also I do it once every 5 days so I suppose it’s not too much.

Oh you use aspirins for blackheads? So interesting! I may like to try that sometime…thanks for sharing!

Good idea to draw out headless pimples! I have no idea how to do that.

There was once a couple of these on my neck and it irritated the hell out of me for a couple of months!

And once I had an opening, I stuck the nexcare acne patch on it and drew out A LOT of stuff…Ewwww…

I love the acne patch. Really works. Things gets worse when I have the urge to pop the pimple but didn’t pop it clean. More breakouts.

Yes, those headless ones are so annoying especially when they get big and inflammed! I thought about trying Nexcare but I hesistated cos I read on another blog that it didn’t helped with the scar much. I guess it depends on individual.

Oh popping is something I have to resist very hard. I’ve got extremely itchy fingers!

Yes I understand the not-very-disciplined-with-food feeling! I noticed breakouts with intake of dairy products, yet I can’t help indulging in ice cream. :(

There’s an acne patch by Lioele which is very effective in easing the pain of pimples!

Thanks for the tip on Lioele. I’ll check out next time I get the chance.

Yes, diary products are a no no for me and it seems to get worst as I grow older. *sigh*

Its so hard not to pick your acne! My face would’ve cleaered up thanks the the nutmeg-honey treatment (thanks to you!), but I started picking again. I actually use yogurt and aspirin, I never thought about using it with green tea and tea tree oil. Will definitely try this.

Don’t you just hate it when you start eating healthy and then see something delish and sugary you start grubbing like a mad person? That happenes to me a whole lot!

    • sesame says

Yes, it is very irritating. I get really annoyed with myself and worse is that, it’s hard to turn back! I’m getting more acne now than when I was younger! Tsk tsk…

And to aggravate matters, it’s so hard for me not to pick the acne too!

But glad the nutmeg honey treatment worked for you. I hope you’ll find success with this if you try it. Just deal with it carefully cos it really comes to a head!

Actually the nexcare acne patch kinda reduced my scaring. Coz instead of popping it and leaving it, I don’t squeeze too hard. Instead, the skin broke a little and i paste it on overnight. The next day, its as good as no pimple.

    hi….
Regarding with the aspirin and green tea, can i used green tea bag instead? I just used the leaves inside…?

    • sesame says

Leaves are not suitable. You need to use powder. Anyway, the green tea is to soothe the skin. You can also use the recipe without the green tea powder. It’ll should do the same. Or substitute with honey or aloe vera.

i use the 3m acne patch too and i do like it quite alot. other than being alittle obvious ( so i only use it at home), it does really draw out alot of disgusting white stuffs, which i guess is the pus or oil. and sometimes if i put it on the pimple for the whole day, when i peel it out, i can see the blachead thingy standing straight on the patch! very effective for me and the pimple sort of totally disappeared without trace after a few times of using! maybe just a little red dot. haha.

Wonderful idea!! I do drink green tea for my acne problem, but I had no idea you can use it as a face mask. I am surely going to try this out. Thanks!!!

    • sesame says

Green tea powder by itself mixed with floral water or distill water is great as a mask. I love it!

    • sesame says

You can get those that are used for making matcha tea from Cold Storage, Finest or Meidiya.
