Review: Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

Judging from the comments, the bottle of Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate in the August VivaBella Giveaway attracted the most number of interests and one of you will get to use it soon. But how does it fare in terms of product performance? Well, here is my review, along with comments from my bestie who also tried out the product, which was sent to me complimentary from Kiehl’s.

Lessons from fairy tales: beauty beyond skin deep

A study by Purdue University sociologist Liz Grauerholz and Lori Baker-Sperry, an assistant professor of women’s studies at Western Illinois University had suggested that fairy tales are sending strong messages about the importance of having a beautiful appearance. “Beauty or ugliness is referred to in 94 percent of the Grimms’ fairy tales; the heroines are usually beautiful in the Grimms’ tales, and ugliness is seen as a sign of evil in 17 percent of the stories”, according to the study. I’ve been re-reading some of these fairy tales and to my surprise, I found there are some hidden beauty lessons to be learnt from them. So today, I’m sharing with you my interpretation of beauty beyond skin deep in seven of these classic tales.

My new bag organizer: a mini tote bag within a bag

Here’s my new bag organizer that I “spreed” for recently. Cost me S$20 and I love it! It’s a mini tote bag on its own with multi-compartments that I can put all my barangs. And it’s kind of pretty too and so I’m sometimes tempted to bring it out on its own. Heh. I have seen almost similar ones retailing at Muji, although the designs are more utilitarian and they cost more too.

Saturday ramblings, quiz & giveaway reminder

Hello VivaBellas! It’s TGIS and it’s a break for me as I usually don’t write long entries on Saturdays. Speaking of entries, people I meet usually ask me how I manage to produce articles on a daily basis. Well, it’s because I think about beauty every minute of the day! And this is how I get inspiration from stories I read, people I speak to and things that catch my eye. Actually, I don’t consider myself to be very prolific, compared to some of the other beauty bloggers who can churn out a few entries on a daily basis; one per day is about the maximum for me. Plus, I sometimes find it such a waste that entries I wrote yesterday get buried so quickly as the second post the next day. I sometimes even get upset that articles I really love go into the second page of this blog after just 5 days!

Pampering Elemental Herbology Facial @ Sccube

It’s been about two months since my last facial and earlier this week, I went for a Elemental Herbology Facial, complimentary from Sccube the Apothecary located at #03-19A, The Centrepoint. I do get invites for facials on and off but I usually turn them down or arrange for guest reviewers to go in my place instead. However, I was interested to try this particular one myself because it’s a manual lymphatic drainage treatment using a natural range of products and I wanted to see how different it is from my usual facial. Anyhow, it’s been awhile since I last reviewed a facial and I thought I can share my experience in a slightly different format this round.
